Power cut? New phone number 105 launches in September

On 6th September 2016 a new national phone number “105” will be launched by electricity network operators for customers to call should they need to report or get information about a power cut in their area. As key stakeholders who work with members of the public who may be affected by power cuts, Western Power Distribution wanted to share this information with you. This a nationwide service that may well be of benefit to you and them.
Key points to note about this service are:
·         Dialling 105 will put customers through to their local electricity network operator – the company that manages the cables, power lines and substations that deliver electricity into homes and businesses in their area.
·         105 is just one of the ways that customers can contact their electricity network operator. Customers can also contact them by phone or via their website, and most network operators are on social media too.
·         105 is a free service for people in England, Scotland and Wales.
·         Customers can call 105 no matter who they choose to buy electricity from.
·         Customers can also call 105 if they spot damage to electricity power lines and substations that could put anyone in danger. If there’s a serious immediate risk, they should call the emergency services too.

If you have any questions or would like any further information, do let us know by contacting us on 0800 096 3080 or info@westernpower.co.uk.

Telephone fraudsters are again targeting Dorset residents.
People are being tricked by cold callers into either transferring money to a fake bank account or by sending a courier to collect it from your home address.
Protect yourself from criminals – NEVER give out your pin number or bank details to ANYONE who calls you, no matter who they claim to be, or where they claim to be from.
  • Never give your pin number or bank details to anyone over the phone
  • Never send cash in a taxi or via courier
  • Never send bank cards anywhere – always keep them with you
The police and your bank will NEVER ask you for your personal bank information over the phone or ask you to withdraw money for any purpose.
If you receive a call from someone who wants your bank details:
  • Hang up
  • Wait for at least five minutes
  • Dial 1471 and write down the telephone number
  • Call the police immediately
If someone on the end of the phone claims to be from a Police Force, ask for their full name, collar number and the Police Force they claim to work for and tell them you will call them back.
Hang up the phone and call 101, ask for the relevant Police Force and get the details they provided corroborated. We understand 101 can result in a long wait sometimes, but rather that than losing out on your hard earn money.
